New Cross Night Photo Crawl

12 Nov 2017

Inspired by the #MeToo campaign and Anna and Lawrence Halprin's In and On the Mountain (1979-81) we will gather at night for two hours in a park, a space that women might usually fear to walk alone. We aim to reclaim this space by mapping it photographically through long exposures and other techniques, making creative responses to the site and our previous experiences of it. Acting as a group we will mark, but also intervene and disrupt, feelings of fear and un-safety, illuminating the park at night with our cameras to see it differently.

The Tutors:

Grace Gelder is a photographer and educator and she regularly collaborates with charities and organisations that support women’s equality and wellbeing. Grace has developed a variety of approaches to the traditional structure of a photo-shoot and continues to explore the dynamics and responsibilities of both the photographer and the person being photographed. Grace’s has worked with Tate, V&A, BBC, The Photographers' Gallery and Wellcome Collection.

Marianne Mulvey is a curator, writer and educator. As a curator she has worked at Tate Britain and Modern, The Arts Council Collection, Hayward Gallery and Gasworks specialising in performance and public programmes. Marianne is currently the recipient of a Collaborative Doctoral Award between Tate and the Royal College of Art, pursuing PhD research on the public programme within the arts institution. Marianne has been a Trustee of Fierce Festival of performance in Birmingham since 2014.
